The Department of State Services (DSS) has filed a five-count criminal charge at the Federal High Court in Abuja against Omoyele Sowore, the presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC).
In a notable move, X Corp (formerly Twitter) and Meta Inc. (owners of Facebook) have also been listed as co-defendants in the case.
The charges were filed by Muhammed Abubakar, a Director of Public Prosecutions at the Federal Ministry of Justice, along with other legal representatives of the DSS and the Nigerian government.
This legal action follows a September 8 ultimatum issued to Sowore by the DSS, demanding the removal of what it described as “false, malicious, and inciting” posts on social media regarding President Bola Tinubu.
The one-week deadline expired without compliance from Sowore, who refused to take down the posts. Additionally, both X Corp and Meta reportedly declined requests by the DSS to delete Sowore’s accounts on their platforms.
