The Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC) has called for urgent and strategic economic diversification across all levels of government to address Nigeria’s current fiscal realities.
Speaking at a retreat for the Commission’s Mobilisation and Diversification Committee (M&DC) in Calabar, Cross River State, RMAFC Chairman, Dr. Muhammed Bello Shehu — represented by Hon. Ismail Mohammed Agaka — stressed that Nigeria’s fiscal trajectory is at a critical crossroads.
He noted that while government spending needs continue to rise, internally generated revenue (IGR) remains inadequate across most states.
“The time has come for a deliberate and data-driven approach to revenue mobilisation and diversification,” he said.
The retreat themed “Clarifying the Strategic Role of the Mobilisation and Diversification Committee and Leveraging Diversification Mandate to Drive Nigeria’s Economic Transformation” aimed to reposition the committee’s role in achieving sustainable economic growth.
