The Jigawa State Government has approved a supplementary budget of ₦75 billion for the 2025 fiscal year, which will soon be submitted to the State House of Assembly for consideration.
This was disclosed by the Commissioner for Information, Youth, Sports, and Culture, Mr. Sagir Musa, on Wednesday in Dutse, following a meeting of the State Executive Council.
According to Musa, the supplementary budget was made possible by additional revenue generated and is intended to address emerging financial needs and strengthen key sectors critical to sustainable development across the state.
He explained that the approved funds are distributed as follows:
- ₦58 billion allocated to the state government
- ₦17 billion allocated to the 27 local government councils
These funds will cover both recurrent and capital expenditures.
Musa emphasized that the supplementary budget aims to support the continuation of major ongoing projects and expand programs in strategic areas such as education, healthcare, infrastructure, agriculture, and other development-focused sectors.
Additionally, the budget seeks to accommodate unforeseen expenditures, ensure public spending aligns with current socio-economic realities, and help the state meet its development targets.
The proposal will be formally presented to the Jigawa State House of Assembly in line with constitutional and legislative procedures.
Mr. Musa noted that the move reflects the administration’s dedication to transparent governance, prudent fiscal management, and efficient service delivery to the people of Jigawa.
It’s worth noting that Governor Umar Namadi had earlier signed the state’s 2025 Appropriation Bill—totaling ₦698.3 billion, the largest in the state’s history—into law on January 1, 2025.
Governor Namadi described the original budget as both transformative and crucial for the long-term development of Jigawa. A significant 76% of the total budget was earmarked for capital projects, highlighting the administration’s strong focus on infrastructure and economic development.
He further stated that the investments made through the 2025 budget are designed to create a foundation for sustainable growth and improved quality of life for all residents of the state.
