The First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, has provided financial support of ₦50,000 each to 500 women in Enugu State to boost their small businesses. The initiative, carried out under the Renewed Hope Initiative in partnership with the Tony Elumelu Foundation, aims to empower women economically across Nigeria.
The support falls under the RHI/Tony Elumelu Foundation Women Economic Empowerment Programme, titled “Provision of Small Business Recapitalisation Grant to 500 Women Across 36 States and the FCT.”
Beneficiaries in Enugu were selected from all 17 local government areas through the office of the state’s First Lady, Nkechinyere Mbah.
Speaking at the event in Enugu on Thursday through her representative, Mrs. Nkechinyere Mbah, Mrs. Tinubu highlighted the programme’s goal of encouraging and sustaining the entrepreneurial drive of women who run small-scale businesses and strive daily to support their families and uplift their communities.
She expressed appreciation to the Tony Elumelu Foundation for its ₦1 billion donation to the Renewed Hope Initiative, which is set to benefit 18,500 women nationwide.
As part of the programme, 500 women in each of the 36 states and the FCT will receive ₦50,000 to help recapitalise and grow their existing businesses.
