Tinubu expresses grief over FIRS, United Capital workers killed in Afriland towers fire

President Bola Tinubu has expressed his condolences to the families of those who lost their lives in the fire at Afriland Towers on Lagos Island.

Tinubu also offered his sympathies to the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), which lost four employees, and United Capital, which lost six workers in the tragic incident.

“President Bola Tinubu commiserates with the families of the victims, as well as the management and staff of the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), United Capital, and United Bank for Africa (UBA) Plc following Tuesday’s fire at Afriland Towers on Broad Street, Lagos Island,” a statement from his aide, Bayo Onanuga, read on Thursday.

“The President extends his condolences to the management of Afriland Properties Limited, the FIRS, United Capital, UBA, and especially those who lost loved ones in the fire, along with the injured who are currently receiving medical care,” the statement continued.

Tinubu also praised the efforts of the emergency responders, including the Federal Fire Service, first aid teams, medical staff, and members of the public, for their swift and responsible actions during the evacuation.

“President Tinubu urges greater caution, better training, and increased vigilance to prevent similar incidents in the future,” the statement added.

He concluded by praying that God would grant eternal rest to the departed souls and speedy recovery to those injured.
