Rescue efforts are underway in northwest Colombia after 25 miners were trapped underground following a gold mine collapse in Segovia on Monday night.
Authorities say contact has been made with the workers, who are reportedly safe 80 meters below the surface.
The mine, located in Antioquia department, is operated by Canada’s Aris Mining Corporation.
While mining accidents are common in Colombia, they typically occur in unlicensed or coal mines. In 2024 alone, 124 fatalities were recorded in mining-related incidents, according to the national mining agency.
