FG unveils theme for Nigeria’s 65th Independence anniversary

In a statement dated 24 September 2025 and signed by Segun Imohiosen, Director of Information and Public Relations, the government frames this anniversary as a call for collective action involving citizens, civil society, the private sector, and government institutions.

The theme emphasizes the need for working together to strengthen national unity and promote lasting peace, prosperity, and progress.

The statement highlights that since gaining independence on 1 October 1960, Nigeria has faced numerous challenges but has also achieved significant milestones across various economic and social sectors. These accomplishments, it notes, must be built upon through joint efforts to create a more resilient and inclusive nation.

This message aligns closely with the Renewed Hope Agenda, with government programs expected to support the theme and reinforce its significance throughout national initiatives.

The Federal Government stresses that the 65th anniversary is an opportunity for all Nigerians to reflect on the country’s journey, celebrate shared achievements, and renew their commitment to collective responsibility in forging a stronger future.

The phrase “All hands-on deck” is highlighted as the guiding principle for pursuing unity and development with renewed energy.

Commemorative activities will kick off with a prayer session on Friday, 26 September at 1:00 p.m., followed by an Inter-Denominational Church Service on Sunday, 28 September at 10:00 a.m.

A World Press Conference is scheduled for Monday, 29 September at 10:00 a.m., where further details of the celebrations will be shared and the government’s vision for national progress reiterated.

The statement reaffirms that Nigeria’s 65th Independence Anniversary is both a time for celebration and a reminder of the shared responsibility among all sectors of society to contribute to national growth and stability.

The Federal Government emphasized that the theme aims to unite all stakeholders under a common message that reflects citizens’ aspirations and sets the tone for future national engagement.
