The Oyo State Police Command has issued a strong warning against any form of public disturbance, including unauthorised processions or movements within Ibadan, as preparations intensify for the coronation of former Governor Rashidi Ladoja as the 44th Olubadan of Ibadanland.
The coronation ceremony is scheduled to take place on Friday at the historic Mapo Hall, and security agencies have begun implementing extensive safety measures to ensure the event proceeds peacefully.
This was disclosed in a statement released in Ibadan by the state Police Public Relations Officer, SP Adewale Osifeso, on Thursday.
Ladoja is set to ascend the throne following the passing of the 43rd Olubadan, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin, who died on July 7, 2025.
According to the police, the coronation marks a significant cultural and historic event, expected to attract dignitaries and attendees from within and outside Nigeria. As a result, security around the city and particularly around the venue has been intensified.
“In anticipation of a large turnout, the Command, in collaboration with other security agencies, has developed a robust operational plan to maintain law and order,” Osifeso stated.
The strategy includes high-visibility patrols, intelligence-driven surveillance, and coordinated stop-and-search operations across key areas of the state. Special attention will also be given to all major entry and exit routes into Ibadan, including airports, public parks, and railway terminals.
The police further noted that, on the day of the ceremony, certain roads around the Mapo Hall area would be temporarily closed to traffic starting from 7:00 a.m., as announced by the state government’s organising committee.
The affected routes include:
- Beere Junction towards Mapo Hall
- Born Photo Junction to Oja’ba
- Idi-Arere Junction to Oja’ba
- Itamerin Junction leading to Mapo Hall
Members of the public are advised to plan their movements accordingly and make use of alternative routes to avoid delays or congestion.
The Command also warned against any attempts to disrupt public order, emphasizing that any unauthorised gatherings or movements before, during, or after the event will be met with strict enforcement action.
Residents were urged to cooperate with security personnel and comply with all safety directives to help ensure a smooth and peaceful coronation.
