The Federal Government has restated its commitment to providing free tuition and approved charges in all Federal Technical Colleges (FTCs), emphasizing that no Nigerian child should be denied access to technical education due to unauthorized payments.
Minister of Education, Tunji Alausa, announced on Thursday through the Ministry’s official X handle. He confirmed that the government continues to fully fund all necessary expenses associated with education in FTCs, including costs related to boarding, learning materials, and school services. According to him, no additional or unapproved fees should be demanded from parents or guardians by any school authority.
Alausa stressed that any attempt by principals or administrators to impose extra levies is strictly prohibited. To eliminate any confusion and ensure uniform compliance, he said official circulars will be sent to all schools and parents.
However, he clarified that while the government covers tuition and essential education-related expenses, boarding students are still expected to bring their personal belongings and daily-use items.
The Ministry explained that this policy is in line with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which places strong emphasis on Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) as a vital tool for national development. By equipping students with practical, employable skills, the government aims to improve Nigeria’s economic competitiveness and self-reliance.
The Ministry also assured that mechanisms are already in place to monitor compliance, address violations swiftly, and protect the integrity of the free education policy. It urged stakeholders to support ongoing efforts to ensure Federal Technical Colleges continue to deliver skilled graduates capable of driving national transformation.
