ARISE TV Anchor Somtochukwu Maduagwu killed in Abuja armed robbery

ARISE News Channel is mourning the tragic death of Somtochukwu Christelle Maduagwu, a 29-year-old journalist who was killed during a violent armed robbery at her residence in the Katampe area of Abuja in the early hours of Monday, September 29, 2025.

Fondly known as Sommie, she was a respected news anchor, reporter, and producer at ARISE News, and also a trained lawyer. The station confirmed her death in a heartfelt statement shared via its official X handle, describing her as a “vibrant voice” and “cherished colleague.”

“Sommie tragically passed away… following an armed robbery incident… that is being investigated by the Nigeria Police,” the statement read.

Tributes have flooded in from across the media, legal community, and general public, with many calling for justice and urgent action from security authorities.

ARISE News expressed its condolences to her family and loved ones, stating:

“Sommie’s voice is now silent, but her spirit, passion, and legacy will endure… We remain in shock and call for a speedy investigation, apprehension, and prosecution of the culprits.”
