The Federal Government has cancelled the Independence Day parade earlier scheduled for Wednesday, October 1, 2025, to mark Nigeria’s 65th Independence Anniversary.
The announcement was made in a statement released on Monday by Segun Imohiosen, Director of Information & Public Relations, Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation. While no reason was given for the cancellation, the government emphasized that the move does not reduce the importance of the celebration.
“The cancellation is in no way a diminishment of the significance of this milestone anniversary,” the statement read.
“All other programmes slated for the Independence Anniversary will remain in effect.”
The FG expressed regret over any inconvenience caused and called on Nigerians, the diplomatic community, and invited guests to support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s reform agenda aimed at building a stronger nation.
This year’s celebration, themed “Nigeria @ 65: All Hands on Deck for a Greater Nation,” will continue as planned, except for the parade. A public holiday has already been declared for October 1, 2025.
