FG declares October 1 public holiday to mark Nigeria’s 65th independence anniversary

The Federal Government has declared Wednesday, October 1, 2025, a public holiday to celebrate Nigeria’s 65th Independence Anniversary.

Announcing the holiday, Minister of Interior Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, via a statement signed by Permanent Secretary Dr. Magdalene Ajani, congratulated Nigerians and urged continued unity, patriotism, and resilience.

He also called on citizens to support President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, centered on national rebirth and economic transformation.

Expressing optimism about Nigeria’s future, Tunji-Ojo said unity and cooperation are vital for national progress. He wished all Nigerians a joyful and memorable Independence Day.

This year’s celebration, themed “Nigeria @ 65: All Hands on Deck for a Greater Nation,” has already begun with nationwide prayers in mosques and churches.
