The Lagos State Police Command has announced the commencement of full enforcement of the law regulating vehicle-tinted glass, effective Thursday, October 2, 2025.
In a statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abimbola Adebisi, the command said the operation is in accordance with existing laws and the directives of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun.
“In view of the above, vehicle owners who are yet to register are strongly advised to obtain the approved Tinted Glass Permit at http://possap.gov.ng,” the statement advised.
It further stated, “Those who are not desirous of obtaining the Tinted Glass Permit are advised to remove such tints or replace the factory-fitted glasses with transparent ones, as legally provided by the Motor Vehicles (Prohibition of Tinted Glass) Act 2004.
“Vehicles with tinted glasses without a permit will be impounded, and offenders will be prosecuted.”
The PPRO urged motorists to always have their necessary documents available for inspection when requested.
“While the Command continues to enforce general traffic and safety regulations, motorists are advised to always carry their essential documents and to cooperate with officers during lawful stop-and-search operations,” she added.
Commissioner of Police Olohundare Jimoh has directed officers and their supervisors to maintain high standards during all stop-and-search activities. He warned that any officer found violating protocols would face disciplinary action, and supervising officers would be held responsible for lapses.
“The exercise is not intended to inconvenience law-abiding citizens but to ensure everyone’s safety and security,” he said.
The Command expressed appreciation to the public for their cooperation and reaffirmed its commitment to professionalism, fairness, and respect for the rights of all citizens during the enforcement drive.
Under the directive, all vehicles with tinted windows must have valid and verifiable permits, which must be presented to law enforcement upon request.
In a related development, the Zone Five Police Command—covering Edo and Delta States—also announced it has begun enforcing regulations on unauthorised use of sirens and tinted glass permits.
