One dead, five arrested as cult clash erupts in Lagos suburb

Lagos, Nigeria – October 6, 2025
A violent clash between rival cult groups in the Onireke and Isashi areas of Lagos State has left one person dead and led to the arrest of five suspected cultists, according to the Lagos State Police Command.

The incident occurred around 10 p.m. on Saturday, prompting a swift response from the police following a distress call from residents.

Command spokesperson SP Abimbola Adebisi confirmed that the Divisional Police Officer and tactical squad commanders led a coordinated operation to the scene, where three injured victims were found. They were rushed to Badagry General Hospital, where one was confirmed dead.


🔍 Five Suspects Arrested, Weapons Recovered

A follow-up operation led to the arrest of five suspects at a nearby hotel believed to be their hideout. The suspects have been identified as:

  • Victor Christian, 43
  • Samuel Success, 29
  • Balogun Emmanuel, 43
  • Wisdom Chukwuemeka, 28
  • Oche Job, 39

During a search of the hotel and their operational vehicle, police recovered a cache of weapons and items allegedly used in the clash.

🧾 Items Recovered Include:

  • A locally-made pistol
  • Two pump-action rifles
  • 52 live cartridges and 2 expended cartridges
  • A Toyota Avalon (registration number: KTU610JB)
  • An HP laptop, computer mouse, and car key
  • A cutlass
  • A Nigerian passport belonging to Ekomafe Gregory Dickson
  • Multiple mobile phones

All recovered items have been documented as evidence for ongoing investigations.


⚖️ Prosecution Pending, Security Tightened

SP Adebisi stated that the suspects remain in police custody and will be charged to court upon completion of investigations. She added that efforts are underway to apprehend other members of the cult groups who fled the scene.

“Police patrol and tactical teams have been deployed to the affected areas to prevent any form of reprisal attacks and to maintain law and order,” she said.
