President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has directed an immediate review and reduction of the 2026 Hajj fare, citing the recent appreciation of the naira against the dollar—a key factor in determining pilgrimage costs.
The directive was conveyed by Vice President Kashim Shettima on Monday during a meeting with the management and board of the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
Shettima gave NAHCON a two-day deadline to produce a revised, more affordable fare structure that reflects the ongoing economic reforms and strengthened exchange rate.
He also called for collaboration between NAHCON, state governments, and relevant agencies to harmonise the new fare and ensure smooth coordination ahead of the 2026 pilgrimage.
To avoid disruptions, the VP stressed the importance of prompt payments and remittances to the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).
Deputy Chief of Staff to the President, Senator Ibrahim Hadeija, told reporters the meeting aimed to finalise Hajj preparations and adjust costs in line with current economic realities.
