Alleged Terrorism: Nnamdi Kanu’s trial stalled over delayed medical report

Justice James Omotosho of the Federal High Court, Abuja, has adjourned the trial of IPOB leader Nnamdi Kanu to October 16, due to the non-submission of a medical report on his health.

The adjournment follows the failure of the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) to submit its court-ordered assessment on whether Kanu’s health can be managed at the DSS facility or if he should be moved to the National Hospital.

The report is also expected to determine if Kanu is fit to stand trial.

Federal Government counsel, Suraj S’aad, told the court the NMA board had contacted them to say the report was not yet ready. He requested a one-week adjournment, which was granted without objection.

The court had previously directed the NMA to set up a board of medical experts to investigate Kanu’s health, following claims of deteriorating condition in detention.
