Governor Monday Okpebholo of Edo State has officially sworn in 19 commissioners, along with several chairpersons and members of various boards and commissions.
The swearing-in ceremony took place at the Government House in Benin City, where the governor delivered a firm warning against corruption and any conduct that could compromise the credibility of his administration.
This was disclosed in a statement issued on Tuesday by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Fred Itua.
Governor Okpebholo emphasized that all appointments were based strictly on merit, reminding the new officials that their selection was a call to service—not a reward or political patronage.
“Your nominations are not for personal gain or recognition but a duty to serve the people of Edo State,” he stated. “Our administration is rooted in practical governance aimed at directly improving the lives of our citizens.”
Reinforcing his commitment to service delivery over publicity, the governor urged the appointees to work with integrity and purpose.
“Our priority is not propaganda, but concrete results and visible development in every part of the state,” he said. “This is not an opportunity for self-enrichment. You have been appointed to serve, to sacrifice, and to contribute to building a better Edo State. We will not tolerate corruption.”
He further charged them to uphold discipline, collaborate effectively, and stay committed to the collective mission of delivering real impact. “History will judge us not by our promises, but by our actions,” he added.
The event was attended by top government officials, including Deputy Governor Dennis Idahosa; Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Chief Lateef Fagbemi; Secretary to the State Government, Musa Ikilor; Chief of Staff Alhaji Gani Audu; as well as commissioners, special advisers, heads of MDAs, permanent secretaries, and other senior officials.
