Nigeria set to assume G-24 chairmanship from Argentina on November 1, 2025

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) announced via its official X (formerly Twitter) handle on Wednesday that Nigeria will formally assume the chairmanship of the Intergovernmental Group of Twenty-Four (G-24) from Argentina on November 1, 2025.

This development follows the federal government’s 2024 appeal for increased investment and stronger trade partnerships among G-24 member countries.

Established in 1971, the G-24 brings together developing nations to coordinate their positions on global monetary policy and development finance, ensuring their collective interests are represented in international economic discussions.

According to the CBN’s statement, “Nigeria will formally take office on November 1, 2025, and will reveal its Work Programme after proper consultation.”

Speaking at a recent meeting, CBN Governor Olayemi Cardoso—on behalf of the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun—reaffirmed Nigeria’s dedication to strengthening the role of the G-24 as a key platform for inclusive dialogue and economic reform.

“Our priority will be to maintain momentum on issues that matter most to member countries. We look forward to collaborating with fellow members to further our shared goals of inclusive growth, fairness, and global economic stability,” Cardoso said.

He added, “We are committed to ensuring the G-24 remains a strong voice for emerging and developing economies.”
