A magistrate court in Kano State has ordered two popular TikTok personalities, Idris Mai Wushirya and Basira Yar Guda, to marry within 60 days following the circulation of videos deemed “indecent” by the Kano State Films and Video Censorship Board.
The videos, which went viral recently, showed the duo engaging in romantic interactions that were considered to violate the moral and religious values upheld in Kano State.
Presiding magistrate Halima Wali, during Monday’s hearing, directed the Kano State Hisbah Board to facilitate the marriage process. The magistrate warned that failure to comply within the stipulated timeframe would amount to contempt of court.
Additionally, the court tasked the Chairman of the Kano State Films and Video Censorship Board with overseeing the enforcement of the marriage order.
Background
The TikTokers had earlier been arraigned for allegedly producing and distributing obscene content on social media platforms. Following the viral videos, Idris Mai Wushirya was remanded in a correctional facility as part of ongoing investigations.
The Kano State Censorship Board maintains that the videos breach state laws prohibiting the creation and dissemination of sexually suggestive or obscene materials.
