The Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) has officially opened its online portal for student loan applications for the 2025/2026 academic session, enabling eligible students to apply for financial aid to support their higher education.
This announcement was made in a statement posted on NELFUND’s official X (formerly Twitter) account on Tuesday, titled “NELFUND Announces Opening of Student Loan Application Portal for 2025/2026 Academic Session.”
According to the statement, the application window will run from Thursday, October 23, 2025, to Saturday, January 31, 2026.
NELFUND expressed appreciation to tertiary institutions across the country for their cooperation and called for continued collaboration to ensure a seamless and inclusive loan process for all eligible students.
The Fund also directed all accredited tertiary institutions to update and upload verified records of both newly admitted and returning students on the NELFUND Student Verification Portal, noting that this step is essential for students to access the loan scheme.
To ease the process for fresh students, NELFUND stated that either an Admission Number or JAMB Registration Number may be used in place of a Matriculation Number when applying. Institutions are encouraged to exercise flexibility with registration and fee payment deadlines for students awaiting loan disbursements.
Institutions that are yet to begin their 2025/2026 academic session were advised to formally notify NELFUND by submitting their approved academic calendars to allow for scheduling adjustments.
The statement added:
“NELFUND appeals to all institutions to consider temporary registration measures for students whose loan applications are being processed, to ensure no student is denied access to education due to financial challenges.”
For technical support and further inquiries, students and institutions are encouraged to contact NELFUND through its official communication channels or its verified handles on X, Instagram, Facebook, and LinkedIn under the name Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND).
