Fire Ravages Shops at Alaba International Market

A massive fire broke out on Tuesday evening at the Alaba International Market in Lagos, destroying several shops and sparking panic among traders.

A live TikTok stream by user KB Clothings captured thick plumes of smoke billowing from the market as distraught traders watched helplessly. Some were seen weeping over lost goods, while others made frantic efforts to salvage their merchandise before the flames reached nearby shops.

Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service personnel were on site, working to contain the blaze, but the fire was still raging at the time this report was filed.

Eyewitnesses reported that the fire tore through rows of locked shops and warehouses, with some blaming market security for a slow initial response.

Located along the Lagos-Badagry Expressway, Alaba International Market is one of Nigeria’s largest hubs for electronics and building materials, drawing thousands of traders from across the country and West Africa.
