A Magistrate Court in Kuje, Abuja, has granted bail to human rights activist and Sahara Reporters publisher, Omoyele Sowore, along with several protesters arrested during the #FreeNnamdiKanuNow demonstration in the Federal Capital Territory.

Those also released on bail include Aloy Ejimakor, counsel to detained IPOB leader Nnamdi Kanu, and Kanu’s brother, Prince Emmanuel Kanu. Others granted bail are Joshua Emmanuel, Wilson Anyalewechi, Okere Kingdom Nnamdi, Clinton Chimeneze, Gabriel Joshua, Isiaka Husseini, Onyekachi Ferdinand, Amadi Prince, Edison Ojisom, Godwill Obioma, and Chima Onuchukwu.

Presiding Magistrate Abubakar Umar Sai’Id issued the bail order on Friday, following the defendants’ arraignment on charges of unlawful assembly and public disturbance.

Each defendant was granted bail of ₦500,000, with conditions requiring a verified National Identification Number (NIN), three-year tax clearance certificate, and submission of their international passports.

Sowore had been arrested on Thursday by police officers shortly after leaving the Federal High Court in Abuja. His arrest, which was captured in viral videos, sparked condemnation from civil society groups and human rights advocates, who described it as another attempt to intimidate activists and stifle dissent.
