The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has announced that the Warri–Itakpe Train Service (WITS) will resume operations on Wednesday, October 29, 2025, following weeks of suspension for maintenance and system upgrades.
NRC’s Chief Public Relations Officer, Callistus Unyimadu, announced in a statement on Sunday, explaining that the temporary suspension allowed the corporation to carry out critical repairs, system checks, and maintenance on the tracks and rolling stock to enhance safety and reliability.
“The temporary suspension was necessary to carry out critical repairs, maintenance, and system checks on the tracks and rolling stock to ensure passenger comfort, reliability, and safety,” Unyimadu said.
He added that the resumption reflects the NRC’s ongoing commitment to delivering safe and efficient train services while maintaining the highest operational standards.
The statement further revealed that the online booking portal will reopen at 12 noon on Monday, October 27, 2025, via https://nrc-fane.ng. Passengers are encouraged to purchase tickets early through the portal or at designated stations.
Train operations will commence with seven coaches—six standard-class and one business-class coach. The NRC also stated that a new timetable, incorporating temporary speed restrictions for safety monitoring, will be released on Monday.
While apologising to travellers for the inconvenience caused during the suspension, Unyimadu expressed gratitude to passengers and stakeholders for their patience and understanding.
NRC Managing Director, Dr. Kayode Opeifa, reaffirmed the corporation’s renewed commitment to ensuring safe, reliable, and efficient rail services as full passenger operations resume along the Warri–Itakpe corridor.
