Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has assured that the ongoing construction of the 13.52-kilometre Ngo–Atlantic–Oyorokoto Road will be completed and commissioned by March next year.
The road, which leads to the popular Oyorokoto Beach and a newly discovered Atlantic beachfront, is being executed by Monier Construction Company (MCC).
Governor Fubara made the disclosure on Tuesday during an inspection of the project site in Andoni Local Government Area, describing it as a bold and visionary effort to open up the coastal region for economic growth and to harness the state’s blue economy potential.
According to a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Nelson Chukwudi, the project cuts through a challenging coastal terrain and is part of the administration’s strategic push to improve access to coastal communities and stimulate tourism.
Fubara explained that while the original design focused on linking Oyorokoto Town and its famous beach, the discovery of a new beachfront facing the Atlantic Ocean prompted his administration to expand the project scope.
“Initially, we were constructing a road to Oyorokoto Beach, one of the finest tourist centres in this area. But as we progressed, we discovered another beach directly facing the Atlantic Ocean. It became clear that we shouldn’t limit development to just one site,” Fubara said.
“We want to harness this new beachfront as part of our broader plan to develop the blue economy.”
The Governor commended MCC for its commitment despite the difficult terrain and expressed confidence that the project would be ready by March 2026.
He also inspected the 5.2km Kalaibiama–Epellema Road project, including a 450-metre bridge in Opobo/Nkoro Local Government Area, where he assessed ongoing work on the Epellema axis.
