Tinubu seeks senate confirmation of newly appointed service chiefs

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has formally requested the Senate to screen and confirm the recently appointed service chiefs.

The request was conveyed in a letter read during Tuesday’s plenary session by the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio.

According to the letter, the nominees include:

  • General Olufemi Oluyede, Chief of Defence Staff
  • Major-General Waheedi Shaibu, Chief of Army Staff
  • Rear Admiral Idi Abbas, Chief of Naval Staff
  • Air Vice Marshal Kennedy Aneke, Chief of Air Staff
  • Major-General Emmanuel Undiendeye, Chief of Defence Intelligence

After reading the President’s letter, Akpabio referred the nominees to the Committee of the Whole for screening and confirmation, scheduled to take place next week.

The development follows a closed-door meeting held on Monday between President Tinubu and the newly appointed service chiefs at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
