The Coalition of United Political Parties (CUPP) says it will welcome international intervention if the Federal Government fails to decisively end the ongoing killings by armed groups across the country.
CUPP’s National Secretary, Chief Peter Ameh, stated this in Abuja on Sunday, while reacting to recent comments by U.S. President Donald Trump, who criticised Nigeria’s handling of its security crisis.
Ameh said the coalition condemns all forms of violence regardless of religion, ethnicity, or political affiliation, adding that Nigerians simply want safety and stability.
“The violence must cease without delay. Displaced persons should be able to return to their homes, those responsible for attacks must be held accountable, and communities must be secured,” he said.
Calls for Decisive Action
Ameh urged President Bola Tinubu to order the military and security agencies to intensify operations against armed groups nationwide, deploying every available resource and intelligence tool to dismantle their networks.
He proposed a 90-day operational target for measurable progress, alongside bi-weekly reports to the Presidency detailing achievements and challenges.
CUPP, he said, remains opposed to any form of negotiation with criminal groups and instead supports firm enforcement and accountability measures.
“Our appeal is for decisive action. If the government does not take the necessary steps, we would welcome any lawful international support that helps to end the activities of these armed groups,” Ameh added.
