EPL: Haaland brace sends Man City past Bournemouth to second spot

Manchester City moved into second place in the Premier League after Erling Haaland scored twice in a 3-1 win over Bournemouth at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday.

Haaland’s goals came either side of Tyler Adams’ equaliser, before Nico O’Reilly netted his first goal of the season to seal the victory, keeping City six points behind leaders Arsenal.

Both Haaland goals were assisted by Rayan Cherki, marking the Norwegian’s first Premier League assists in only his second league start following a two-month thigh injury layoff.

Bournemouth started brightly, with Eli Kroupi turning in a close-range cross in the opening minute — ruled offside — and looked to press high. But City punished their high line in the 17th minute: Nico González played a dinked pass from defence to Cherki, who headed into Haaland’s path. The striker then powered the ball under goalkeeper Djordje Petrovic to open the scoring.

Despite the loss, Bournemouth remain fourth in the table, having never claimed a point at the Etihad.
