President Tinubu mourns Former Chief of Staff General Abdullahi Mohammed Adangba

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of Major General Abdullahi Mohammed Adangba (rtd.), former Chief of Staff to Presidents Olusegun Obasanjo and Umaru Musa Yar’Adua.

General Mohammed, who passed away at the age of 86, made enduring contributions to Nigeria’s security framework, notably through his role in establishing the National Security Organisation (NSO) — the precursor to the State Security Service (SSS), the National Intelligence Agency (NIA), and the Defence Intelligence Agency (DIA).

A seasoned military officer and statesman, General Mohammed also served as Governor of the former Benue-Plateau State from 1975 to 1976.

President Tinubu described him as a disciplined, loyal, and patriotic officer, whose decades of service were marked by dedication to national stability, effective governance, and institutional development.

The President noted that General Mohammed brought to public service an uncommon blend of duty, order, humility, and integrity, leaving an indelible mark on the institutions he served and the people he worked with—particularly within the State House, where he played a pivotal role in shaping the modern Presidency.

“He was a man of exemplary character, who combined the precision of a soldier with the prudence of a statesman. His years in the State House were marked by humility, efficiency, and unwavering commitment to the Nigerian project,” President Tinubu stated.

The President extended his condolences to the family of the late General, the government and people of Kwara State, the Nigerian Armed Forces, and all who mourn the loss of this distinguished patriot.
