The Senate on Tuesday confirmed six nominees for appointment as chairman and members of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) board.
The confirmation followed the presentation of a report by Senator Aliyu Ikra Bilbis (Zamfara Central), chairman of the Senate Committee on Communications, during plenary.
Bilbis said the nominations by President Bola Tinubu complied with Section 8(1) of the Nigerian Communications Act, 2003, adding that the nominees possessed the expertise and experience needed to advance the country’s communications and digital economy sector.
“The committee conducted thorough inquiries to ascertain the competence, credibility, and suitability of the nominees,” Bilbis said. “They met all requirements stipulated under Section 7(1) (a–h) of the NCC Act.”
Senator Shuaibu Salisu (Ogun Central) described the nominees as “a robust and balanced team” combining youth and experience, while Senator Victor Umeh (Anambra Central) commended the committee for correcting the earlier omission of a representative from the South-East region.
The Senate had previously confirmed Aminu Maida as Executive Vice-Chairman and CEO, Abraham Oshidami as Executive Commissioner (Technical Services), and Rimini Makama as Executive Commissioner (Stakeholder Management).
The confirmation was adopted after Senate President Godswill Akpabio put the motion to a voice vote.
Earlier in the day, the Senate also confirmed Musa Babayo as Chairman of the Federal Roads Maintenance Agency (FERMA) board.
