UPDATED: Abdulrahman-Led PDP Unveils Newly Inaugurated Board of Trustees

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), under the leadership of its acting National Chairman, Abdulrahman Mohammed, has elected Mao Ohabunwa as the chairman of its newly constituted Board of Trustees (BoT).

Ohabunwa was elected on Friday during a ceremony held at the official residence of the FCT Minister in Abuja.

At the same event, Isah Dansidi was chosen as the Secretary of the Board.

In his remarks at the inauguration, Abdulrahman stated that the initiative aims to restore the party’s core values and rebuild public confidence.

“We are gathered here not just to inaugurate a new Board of Trustees, but to reaffirm our commitment to the founding ideals of this great political family — justice, fairness, inclusivity, and respect for the rule of law,” he said at the event, which took place at Nyesom Wike’s residence.

He noted that recent events within the party, including internal conflicts and disagreements, have steered it away from the core principles upon which it was founded.

Abdulrahman stated that the former Board of Trustees, headed by Senator Adolphus Wabara, had lost its moral footing, adding that Wabara’s suspension by the Abia State chapter of the PDP was a tough but necessary decision.

“We must be truthful with ourselves — the decline we are addressing today didn’t start overnight. It began when we abandoned the zoning principle before the 2015 elections, when personal ambitions took precedence over equity, and when we dismissed the voices of reason within our own ranks. The repercussions of those choices continue to affect us today,” he said.

“I stand before you today to assure every member of our great party that under this new leadership, the PDP will no longer be subjected to impunity, manipulation, or violations of its constitution.

We are committed to rebuilding this party on the foundation of transparency. We will uphold court rulings and the rule of law, conduct our congresses with fairness and integrity, and work tirelessly to restore public confidence — making the PDP once again the moral compass of Nigeria’s democracy.”
