The Lagos State Government will commence the administration of the free Novel Oral Polio Vaccine Type 2 (nOPV2) to children aged 0 to 5 years from Saturday, November 8, 2025.
The statewide exercise is part of ongoing efforts to safeguard children from poliovirus and to maintain Lagos’ polio-free status.
According to health officials, trained vaccination teams will visit homes, schools, mosques, churches, markets, and other public places across the state to administer the vaccine.
Parents and guardians are urged to make their children available for vaccination, even if they have previously received polio drops.
The nOPV2 vaccine is an improved version of the earlier oral polio vaccine, designed to provide stronger protection against type 2 poliovirus. It has been proven safe and effective.
Experts emphasize that there is no risk of overdose from the oral vaccine; rather, each additional dose further strengthens a child’s immunity against the virus.
The Lagos State Government appeals to community leaders, parents, and caregivers to support the campaign by ensuring all eligible children receive the nOPV2 drops during the exercise.
Through collective effort and public cooperation, Lagos aims to completely eradicate polio.
