The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adeboye, has urged President Bola Tinubu to tackle Nigeria’s insecurity crisis decisively by eliminating terrorist groups within 90 days.
Responding to recent concerns reportedly raised by former U.S. President Donald Trump after the church’s November Holy Ghost Service, themed “The Eve of Glory,” Pastor Adeboye emphasized the urgent need to address the deteriorating security situation in the country.
He underscored the sanctity of human life and advised the Federal Government to issue a 90-day ultimatum to security chiefs to eliminate terrorist networks or face dismissal.
“In my usual quiet way, I have related with all the presidents who were in power when this trouble began. Whatever I discussed with them privately, I did my best behind the scenes. But you can only advise the Commander-in-Chief — you can’t command him,” Adeboye said.
“If I were to make suggestions, I’d say to our government: move quickly, move diplomatically, move wisely. Convince the President of America to delay his actions for about 100 days. Then return home and instruct our security chiefs to eradicate these terrorists within 90 days or resign.”
Adeboye revealed that he had previously given similar counsel to the late President Muhammadu Buhari, noting that while some progress was made, it was not sustained.
“There was a president — unfortunately, he’s no longer alive — Buhari, who issued such an order. He’s not here to tell you who advised him. He acted on it but didn’t follow through. Three months passed, and the work wasn’t done. I asked him why he didn’t continue, but I won’t reveal the details,” he said.
The cleric further advised that any directive to the service chiefs should include the instruction to eliminate not just terrorists but also their sponsors, regardless of their status or influence.
“When I say our leaders should move fast, diplomatically, and wisely, it’s because if America attacks us, China, Russia, and other world powers will condemn it strongly, but that’s all. Britain won’t come to our aid. No foreign power will,” he warned.
Adeboye also appealed to President Tinubu to engage diplomatically with the U.S. President to secure a 100-day grace period before any potential international action against Nigeria, stressing that this window should be used to decisively eradicate terrorism.
“This is not the time for jokes, grammar, or arguments. It’s not about Christians or Muslims — innocent people are dying,” he said.
Meanwhile, human rights lawyer and activist Dele Farotimi has criticized the government’s response to ongoing violence across the country, describing it as genocide rather than “farmer-herder clashes.”
