“The Security of Nigeria is Non-Negotiable” — President Bola Tinubu

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has reaffirmed his administration’s unwavering commitment to safeguarding the lives and property of Nigerians, declaring that “the security of Nigeria is non-negotiable.”

Since 2023, the Federal Government, through strengthened inter-agency collaboration, has intensified efforts to pursue, arrest, eliminate, and prosecute terrorists and insurgents responsible for some of the most heinous attacks on Nigerian soil.

According to official records, over 124 terrorists and insurgents have been successfully convicted since 2024, while several others — including members of the Ansaru leadership, and those implicated in the Owo Church bombing (2022) and the Yelwata reprisal attacks in Benue State — are currently facing trial in various courts across the country.

The government’s counter-terrorism approach has included joint security task forces, enhanced border patrols with regional partners, compensation for victims, permanent joint patrol operations, and intelligence sharing with international allies — all designed to strengthen Nigeria’s internal security and sovereignty.

As of 2025, Nigeria has recorded an 81% decrease in terror-related deaths compared to 2015 — a testament to the effectiveness of renewed counter-insurgency operations and improved collaboration between security agencies and local communities.

In the past year alone, over 13,000 terrorists have been neutralised, while more than 124,000 fighters and their dependents have surrendered to Nigerian authorities.

Furthermore, over 2.1 million internally displaced persons (IDPs) have returned to their communities, as relative peace and normalcy continue to return to previously affected regions.

To consolidate these gains, the Federal Government has launched a Resettlement Scheme for Persons Impacted by Conflict, aimed at rebuilding destroyed communities and supporting the reintegration of displaced persons into society.

President Tinubu reiterated that his administration will continue to prioritise security, stability, and national unity, ensuring that every Nigerian lives free from fear and intimidation.
