A Federal High Court in Abuja has once again halted the Peoples Democratic Party’s planned national convention.
In a ruling delivered on Friday, Justice Peter Odo Lifu ordered that the convention scheduled for November 15 and 16, 2025, in Ibadan, Oyo State, be put on hold until former Jigawa State governor, Sule Lamido, is allowed to obtain the nomination form to contest for the position of national chairman.
The court also restrained the Independent National Electoral Commission from supervising, monitoring, or providing any support for the Ibadan convention until Lamido is allowed to participate.
Justice Lifu held that the PDP is legally bound to follow its own constitution and guidelines, including ensuring that all qualified members are given fair opportunity to pursue their political ambitions.
He stated that the party acted improperly by preventing Lamido from purchasing the nomination form for the chairmanship position.
Lamido, through his lawyer, Jeph Njikonye (SAN), had asked the court for an interim injunction stopping the party from holding the convention, alleging that he was unjustly denied access to the form.
The judge further observed that the order was necessary because the PDP failed to meet the statutory requirements for convening such a gathering, including failing to publish the convention notice as mandated and to issue the compulsory 21-day notice to members.
