Army Rejects Report on Brigade Commander’s Kidnapping

Meanwhile, the Nigerian Army has dismissed reports circulating on some online platforms claiming that a Brigade Commander was abducted by terrorists during an ambush along Damboa Road in Borno State.

In a statement, Acting Director of Army Public Relations, Lt.-Col. Apollonia Anele, described the report as “fake news” and urged the public to disregard it.

Providing details of the incident, the Army said troops of the 25 Task Force Brigade, led by Brigade Commander Brig.-Gen. M. Uba, were returning from a successful patrol around Wajiroko in Azi Multe, Damboa Local Government Area, when they came under heavy insurgent fire near the fringes of the Sambisa Forest.

According to the statement, the troops responded with superior firepower, breaking through the ambush and forcing the insurgents to retreat and abandon their mission.

However, two soldiers and two members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) lost their lives during the encounter.

The Army high command praised the troops for their bravery and extended condolences to the families of the fallen personnel, describing their sacrifice as a testament to the courage and resilience of Nigerian forces.

The Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Waidi Shaibu, commended the troops for their dedication despite operating in one of the most challenging theatres of conflict, saying their commitment underscores the daily sacrifices made to keep the country safe.
