President Tinubu receives Duke of Edinburgh, Prince Edward, at State House

President Bola Tinubu on Monday welcomed the Duke of Edinburgh, Prince Edward, to the State House in Abuja. The visit was announced by the President’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Bayo Onanuga, in a post shared on X.

Prince Edward is in Nigeria for a week-long series of engagements in Lagos, scheduled from 17–23 November 2025, aimed at advancing the global reach of the Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award.

The programme will bring together about 200 young people from more than 50 countries, alongside global Award leaders, policymakers, and representatives of youth movements. Participants will undergo an intensive three-day youth leadership programme, followed by the Award’s triennial International Forum, which focuses on expanding access to the initiative worldwide.

More than 1.2 million young people across over 130 countries participated in the Award last year. While the UK accounts for nearly half of all participants, Kenya ranks second. In Nigeria, participation has grown rapidly—up by 37% in the past year—reflecting growing enthusiasm across West Africa.
