Abduction: Two Schoolgirls Escape From Captivity — Kebbi Government Confirms

The Kebbi State Government has confirmed that two of the schoolgirls kidnapped from Government Girls Comprehensive Senior Secondary School (GGCSS), Maga, have escaped from their abductors.

The Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Halima Bande, made the clarification in an interview with Channels Television in Zuru on Tuesday.

Bande revealed that 26 students were abducted during the Sunday night attack, but two girls — Salma and Hauwa’u Liman — successfully escaped, leaving 24 schoolgirls still in captivity.

“Only two have escaped so far,” the Commissioner stated, confirming that both students are safe and back with authorities.

Describing the emotional toll of the incident, she added:
“This is a tragedy that has put everyone around us in trauma. We don’t know where they sleep, the food they eat, or the environment they are in.”

Bande also urged the public to refrain from sharing unverified reports about the abduction, noting that misinformation has already complicated communication efforts.

“I implore journalists and media outlets to rely only on authentic information regarding the incident,” she said.

The attack, carried out by armed assailants at the girls’ secondary school in Maga, Danko/Wasagu Local Government Area, left the community shaken as gunmen took away over 20 students.
