President Tinubu to attend G20 Summit in South Africa, AU–EU meeting in Angola

President Bola Tinubu is set to embark on a two-nation diplomatic trip on Wednesday, departing Abuja for South Africa and Angola to participate in two significant international summits.

According to a statement by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu’s first destination will be Johannesburg, where he will attend the 20th G20 Leaders’ Summit from November 22 to 23 at the Johannesburg Expo Centre.

Hosted by South African President Cyril Ramaphosa, the summit will gather leaders from the world’s largest economies, alongside representatives from the European Union, African Union, and global financial institutions. The event’s theme, “Solidarity, Equality, Sustainability,” will focus on inclusive and sustainable growth, global economic resilience, climate change, just energy transitions, food systems, critical minerals, decent work, and the future of artificial intelligence.

President Tinubu is also expected to engage in several bilateral meetings during the summit to strengthen discussions on regional peace, security, and development.

Following the G20 summit, the President will proceed to Luanda, Angola, to attend the 7th African Union–European Union Summit from November 24 to 25. The summit will convene African and European leaders, young innovators, and civil society representatives to address shared global challenges, including climate action, inclusive development, manufacturing, the digital economy, infrastructure, agribusiness, and the creative sector. The discussions aim to foster stronger cooperation between the two unions.

President Tinubu will be accompanied by senior government officials, including the Ministers of Foreign Affairs, Finance, Solid Minerals, Trade and Investment, and the Director-General of the National Intelligence Agency.

He is expected to return to Nigeria after completing these engagements.
