Vice President Senator Kashim Shettima has reassured the families of the abducted schoolgirls in Kebbi State—as well as the families of the late Brigadier-General Musa Uba and the late Vice Principal—that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is profoundly disturbed by the tragic events.
Speaking in Birnin Kebbi on Wednesday on President Tinubu’s directive, the Vice President described the abduction of the schoolgirls from the boarding school in Maga as a violation of the collective conscience of the nation. He stressed that the federal government will deploy every available instrument of state to rescue the students and ensure that those responsible for the killings and kidnappings face the full force of the law.
According to Shettima, President Tinubu instructed him to visit Kebbi to convey his sympathy to the state government and to assure the parents of the kidnapped girls that securing their release is a top national priority.
“Kebbi’s pain is Nigeria’s pain,” he said, extending the President’s condolences. “When even one child is taken, every family in this country suffers. The President is deeply troubled by this tragedy and shares your anguish. This is not a moment for politics; it is a time for unity, compassion, and resolve. Our foremost priority is simple and unwavering: our daughters must return home safely.”
The Vice President emphasised that the government will not shirk its responsibility. “Every tear and every cry from Kebbi touches the conscience of the entire country. We will not relent. We will use all instruments of state power to rescue these girls and ensure the perpetrators are held fully accountable. Kebbi is not alone. Nigeria stands with you.”
Shettima also pledged federal support for the families of those killed by the attackers, including the fallen military officer and school official. Honouring the sacrifice of Brigadier-General Musa Uba, he said, “His service will never be forgotten. When a soldier gives his life for this nation, it wounds a part of our collective soul. We will honour him, his family, and all who pay the supreme price for Nigeria.”
He commended Governor Muhammed Nasir Idris, traditional rulers, community leaders, vigilante groups, civil society organisations, and other stakeholders for their unity and cooperation during this crisis. Shettima also praised the gallantry and dedication of the Nigerian Armed Forces, the police, intelligence agencies, and other security personnel who are confronting the nation’s security challenges.
Governor Idris expressed appreciation to President Tinubu for his support and constant communication since the incidents occurred. He said he remains optimistic that, with the government’s efforts, the abducted girls will soon be rescued, adding that the state is committed to working closely with the Federal Government to prevent future occurrences.
Dignitaries present included APC National Chairman Prof. Nantawe Yitwada, Deputy Governor Senator Umar Abubakar Tafida, several federal ministers, members of the National Assembly, former Governor Usman Saidu Nasamu Dakingari, state officials, and heads of security agencies.
