Nottingham Forest Humiliate Liverpool 3–0, Deepen Crisis for EPL Champions

Liverpool’s disastrous season plunged further into turmoil on Saturday as the struggling champions suffered a shocking 3–0 home defeat to Nottingham Forest at Anfield.

Forest struck first in the 33rd minute when Murillo drilled home after Liverpool failed to clear Elliot Anderson’s corner. Reds manager Arne Slot was furious that the goal stood, insisting Forest’s Dan Ndoye obstructed goalkeeper Alisson Becker — an infringement similar to the one that saw Virgil van Dijk’s goal ruled out during Liverpool’s 3–0 defeat to Manchester City before the international break.

Just seconds into the second half, matters worsened for the hosts. Nicolo Savona finished calmly from Neco Williams’ cut-back to double Forest’s advantage.

With Liverpool’s disorganised defence collapsing again, Morgan Gibbs-White added a third in the 78th minute, reacting quickest to a rebound after Omari Hutchinson’s shot was parried by Alisson.

The result marked Forest’s second consecutive win at Anfield and condemned Liverpool to their eighth defeat in 11 matches across all competitions — including six losses in their last seven Premier League outings. It is the first time since 1965 that Liverpool have suffered back-to-back league defeats by a three-goal margin.

Slot admitted on Friday that the squad remains emotionally shaken by the tragic death of Diogo Jota in a car crash in Spain in July. But Liverpool once again looked flat, disjointed, and uninspired, slipping to 11th on the table, eight points behind leaders Arsenal.

Their dramatic collapse comes despite a summer transfer outlay exceeding £400 million. Among the biggest disappointments is Alexander Isak, who was substituted in the second half of his fourth league start. The Swedish striker, signed from Newcastle in a British-record deal, is still yet to score a Premier League goal for Liverpool.
