The Kwara State Government has confirmed the release of the 38 worshippers abducted by bandits from the Christ Apostolic Church (CAC), Eruku, in Ekiti Local Government Area.
In a statement issued on Sunday by his Chief Press Secretary, Rafiu Ajakaye, Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq announced that the victims had been freed, though the government did not disclose the specific circumstances surrounding their release.
“After many days of hard work by security forces and government representatives, Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq is excited to announce the freedom of 38 persons who were recently abducted in an attack on Christ Apostolic Church (CAC), Eruku, Ekiti LGA, Kwara State,” the statement read in part.
The government attributed the successful operation to what it described as President Bola Tinubu’s “hands-on approach,” noting that the President personally intervened to secure the release of the abductees.
According to the statement, President Tinubu canceled his scheduled trip to the G20 meeting in South Africa to focus on security breaches in Kwara and Kebbi states. He also ordered reinforced security deployments to the affected communities, underscoring his commitment to protecting Nigerians.
Governor AbdulRazaq expressed deep appreciation to the Office of the National Security Adviser, the Department of State Services (DSS), the Nigerian Army, the Nigeria Intelligence Agency (NIA), and the Nigerian Police Force for their coordinated efforts.
He also extended gratitude to community leaders, religious institutions, and residents of Kwara State for their support and solidarity throughout the ordeal.
