Vice President Kashim Shettima on Sunday departed Johannesburg, South Africa, for Luanda, Angola, where he will represent President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the 7th African Union–European Union (AU–EU) Summit.
His trip comes shortly after concluding Nigeria’s engagements at the 20th G20 Leaders’ Summit, also held in Johannesburg, where he stood in for President Tinubu during high-level discussions on global financial reforms, critical minerals governance and artificial intelligence.
According to a statement by the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Communications (Office of the Vice President), Stanley Nkwocha, the AU–EU Summit is scheduled for November 24–25, 2025.
The gathering will bring together Heads of State and Government from both blocs, as well as young leaders, innovators and civil society organisations, to deliberate on shared challenges and opportunities.
Key issues expected to dominate the summit include climate change, inclusive development, modern infrastructure, manufacturing, agribusiness, digital economy expansion and growth in the creative industries.
The meeting is also expected to generate actionable recommendations to strengthen AU–EU partnerships and fast-track sustainable development across both regions.
Vice President Shettima is expected to return to Nigeria at the end of the summit.
