Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, has approved the voluntary request of the Executive Secretary and Chief Executive Officer of the Nigeria Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (NEITI), Dr. Orji Ogbonnaya Orji, to commence his statutory terminal leave.
Orji’s five-year single tenure is scheduled to end on February 19, 2026.
Akume, who also chairs the NEITI National Stakeholders Working Group (NSWG), confirmed the development in a statement issued Monday by the Director of Information and Public Relations in the SGF’s office, Segun Imohiosen. The announcement followed Orji’s formal notice, submitted in line with public service regulations.
The statement commended Orji for his exemplary, reform-driven leadership and his contributions both to Nigeria and the global Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (EITI). It highlighted his role in establishing the NEITI Data Centre, which has further strengthened Nigeria’s standing as a credible EITI-implementing nation.
The Federal Government reiterated its commitment to safeguarding NEITI’s independence, enhancing its statutory mandate, and sustaining transparency reforms vital to Nigeria’s extractive sector and national development.
“On behalf of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the NSWG, the Federal Government conveys its best wishes to Dr. Orji Ogbonnaya Orji after a distinguished and impactful service to the nation,” the statement said.
