The Rivers State Police Command has debunked a viral social media video alleging that herdsmen attempted an attack in the state but were confronted by Ijaw youths.
The Command described the claims as false, misleading, and intentionally crafted to incite fear.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, the Police Public Relations Officer, Grace Iringe-Koko, said the video was fabricated by individuals seeking to disrupt the peace currently enjoyed across the state.
She confirmed that there has been no incident, report, or intelligence indicating that Fulani herdsmen attacked any community in Rivers State, describing the story as a deliberate attempt by mischief makers to undermine the prevailing calm and stability.
The police urged residents to ignore the viral video and to avoid circulating unverified information capable of causing unnecessary panic or damaging the state’s image.
Iringe-Koko reaffirmed that the Command—working in collaboration with other security agencies—remains committed to protecting lives and property. She noted that robust security measures, including patrol teams, surveillance units, and tactical squads, are actively operating under the leadership of Commissioner of Police Olugbenga Adepoju, who is focused on transparent and accountable policing.
The Command encouraged the public to stay calm, remain vigilant, and verify information through official channels before sharing it.
