Adeleke Will Announce New Political Party Before Dec 13 — Osun Commissioner

The Osun State Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Kolapo Alimi, has disclosed that Governor Ademola Adeleke will officially announce his new political party before December 13, following his resignation from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

PUNCH Online earlier reported that Adeleke confirmed submitting his resignation letter to PDP executives in Sagba Abogunde, Ward 2, Ede North Local Government, on November 4, 2025.

Speaking on a political programme on Rave FM, Osogbo, on Tuesday, Alimi said the governor’s exit from the PDP was the culmination of long-standing internal crises within the party.

“The governor of Osun State and the Asiwaju of Ede has formally resigned his membership of the Peoples Democratic Party. He submitted his resignation letter long ago,” Alimi said.

He urged residents to remain calm and continue supporting the governor, stressing that the decision was necessary and overdue.

According to Alimi, national-level PDP crises—especially with the upcoming governorship election—played a major role in Adeleke’s decision to leave. He noted that with the Independent National Electoral Commission’s nomination window closing on December 15, waiting any longer would have jeopardised the governor’s political future.

“The governor is happy with the reactions so far. Everybody knows that if not for the crisis and division at the national level—which is critical to the nomination process—the governor wouldn’t have defected,” he added.

Addressing rumours that the All Progressives Congress (APC) welcomed Adeleke’s resignation, Alimi dismissed the claims, insisting that the opposition was unsettled by the development.

“They’re pretending. They thought Adeleke would stay in the PDP so they could use the national crisis to challenge him in court. But Adeleke is smarter. Every step they take, he is ahead of them, and they’re not happy,” he said.

Alimi concluded by emphasizing that residents should expect Adeleke to announce his new party before December 13.
