The People’s Republic of China has pledged to maintain an open approach and a commitment to mutual benefit in advancing Nigeria’s rail transit intelligence control system.
Mr. Umar Usman, Public Relations Officer of the Federal University of Transportation (FUT) Daura, stated this in a release to the News Agency of Nigeria on Thursday.
Usman said the agreement, highlighted by Mr. Yin Yungong, Deputy General Manager of the China Railway Signal & Communication Corporation (CRSCI), is expected to significantly enhance Nigeria’s transportation infrastructure.
Yungong made the remarks at the conclusion of a three-week International Seminar on Rail Transit Intelligence Control Systems held in Beijing and Suzhou, China. He noted that participants had successfully met the learning objectives, equipping them with the knowledge and experience needed to contribute to the modernisation of Nigeria’s railway system.
“Through this programme, you have gained insights into China’s rail transit technology system,” Yungong explained. “It has combined practical exercises with a deeper understanding of technical details to strengthen your skills through hands-on experience. Should you face any technical challenges, please do not hesitate to reach out to CRSCI. We pledge to be a strong support system, offering full assistance to resolve issues and jointly promote the development of rail transit in Nigeria.”
He expressed optimism that the agreement signed in August 2025 between CRSCI, the Federal Ministry of Transportation, and FUT Daura would pave the way for further collaborative projects.
“As part of our commitment, we plan to establish a Joint Intelligent Control Research Centre next year and deepen cooperation with Nigeria to implement projects, including the Abuja-Kaduna Railway upgrade and renovation, low-altitude security systems, operations and maintenance, as well as other new initiatives,” Yungong added.
FUT Daura Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Umar Adam-Katsayal, thanked God for the safe completion of the programme and expressed gratitude to CRSCI for hosting the seminar, which combined classroom learning with practical site visits. “We leave China equipped with valuable knowledge and ready to apply it in our work and personal endeavors back home,” he said.
Representing the Federal Ministry of Transportation, Mrs. Afolabi Olufisayo-Mercy commended the organisers for the seminar’s meticulous planning and smooth execution. She noted that it had prepared Nigerian scholars, engineers, technicians, and operators to teach, design, implement, and sustain modern railway signaling and operational systems.
“This closing marks a milestone in a broader strategic partnership that goes beyond technology transfer, fostering trust, shared standards, and a common goal: safe, reliable, and sustainable rail transport for Nigeria,” she concluded.
