The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has clarified reports surrounding its recent enforcement action on a property in Abuja, stating that the operation was carried out strictly on the strength of a lawful court order.
The property in question—Plots 680–689, Cadastral Zone B06, Mabushi—is tied to an ongoing criminal case before Justice A.I. Kutigi of the FCT High Court. The Commission explained that it obtained an interim forfeiture order from Justice Emeka Nwite of the Federal High Court in Abuja, pending the outcome of the criminal proceedings.
The order empowered the EFCC to take custody of the asset and to appoint qualified managers to oversee it until investigations conclude and the court decides on the charges.
According to the Commission, what was described in some reports as an “invasion” was simply the lawful execution of this court-approved attachment on Friday, November 28, 2025. It stressed that no action taken by its officers fell outside judicial authorization.
The EFCC also clarified that an earlier charge struck out by Justice Osho Adebiyi—along with the N20 million costs awarded—has no connection to the interim forfeiture order currently being enforced.
It added that the ongoing appeal regarding ownership of the property remains active and that the Commission is fully participating in the legal process.
The EFCC urged the media to maintain accuracy and balance in their reporting and allow it to focus on its mandate of combating corruption across the country.
