Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, says the Federal Government is committed to strengthening policies that will drive growth in Nigeria’s aviation industry.
Speaking on Thursday at the closing ceremony of the maiden Nigeria International Airshow held at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, Keyamo said the government is set to upgrade regulations to meet global standards and invest heavily in aviation infrastructure, including airport improvements.
He noted that enhanced safety and security measures will be a major priority as part of efforts to boost confidence and stimulate growth across the sector.
Keyamo reaffirmed the government’s determination to build world-class aviation facilities and develop local capacity in areas such as aircraft maintenance and professional training. He said the airshow aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s vision for a safe, secure, and competitive aviation industry capable of driving economic expansion, tourism, and national security.
He highlighted that the opening aerial display by the Nigerian Air Force demonstrated the country’s growing aerospace capabilities.
According to him, the Nigeria International Airshow represents more than an exhibition — it signals national ambition and brings together global manufacturers, innovators, regulators, airlines, investors, and aviation enthusiasts to explore opportunities and showcase technological advancements.
Speaking separately, Francis Odita, Director of Special Duties at the Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau, described the airshow’s success as a major milestone for the sector. He said hosting NIA 2025 provides Nigeria with a platform to attract investment, promote tourism, and create both temporary and long-term jobs across aviation and hospitality.
Odita explained that the NSIB conducts thorough, impartial investigations into air, rail, maritime, and road incidents under its expanded mandate, with the goal of improving safety through actionable recommendations. He added that the agency works with both local and international institutions to enhance safety standards and prevent future accidents.
