Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has officially defected to the Accord Party, days after announcing his departure from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The declaration was made on Tuesday at the Banquet Hall of the Government House, in the presence of national and state leaders of the Accord Party.
Adeleke also confirmed his intention to seek a second term in office under the “Thumb-Up” party, noting that he secretly joined the party over a month ago.
He said:
“I joined the Accord Party more than a month ago—specifically on November 6—as the platform on which I will seek re-election in 2026. This came after weeks of consultations and discussions with stakeholders and opinion leaders.
“Stakeholders and residents of Osun State know why we are taking this significant step. We plan to pursue a second term under the Accord Party to complete the ongoing delivery of good governance and democratic dividends, which have been widely acknowledged locally and internationally.”
The governor explained that he chose Accord because its philosophy of welfarism aligns with his administration’s emphasis on citizen and worker welfare.
He added:
“I welcome our party leaders to the Osun State Government House. You are now part of us, just as I am part of you. We are united in our commitment to progress and the welfare of the good people of Osun State and Nigeria at large.
“Our task now is to maintain a united front as we prepare for the elections. We must ensure inclusive leadership that considers the interests of all groups. Accord Party is ready to take over governance in Osun and continue delivering quality leadership.
“Since joining the party, I have been impressed by its philosophy. People’s welfare should always be at the core of public leadership. The primary purpose of government is the well-being of its citizens.”
Adeleke emphasized the achievements of his administration:
“As governor, I have prioritised the welfare of our people—from workers to the general citizenry. Day and night, we implement policies and programmes that elevate living standards. From infrastructure to social services, Osun has never enjoyed such impactful governance.”
He continued:
“Today, we unveil a new platform for the people of Osun State. From Osun West to Osun East and Osun Central, this is our party—our platform for victory in August next year.
“From Igbomina to Ijeshaland, Ifeland to Osogbo, Iwoland to Modakeke, Gbongan to Igbajo, Ikire to Ikirun, and Ede, we must ‘thumb up’ for good governance.
“Osun voted for good governance in 2022, and they will support continuity in 2026. The majority of our people want continuity, and Accord is our vehicle to victory next year.
“In line with the wishes of stakeholders and out of deep respect for the people of Osun State, I formally declare for the Accord Party.”
Adeleke had earlier resigned from the PDP on December 2, citing unresolved leadership crises at the national level.
In a statement posted on Instagram, he said he submitted his resignation to PDP officials in Sagba Abogunde, Ward 2, Ede North Local Government, on November 4, 2025.
He added:
“Due to the ongoing crisis within the national leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party, I officially submitted my resignation letter on November 4, 2025. I thank the party, its members, and supporters for the opportunities they have given me—first as a Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and now as the Governor of Osun State.”
