In a major boost for Nigeria’s youth entrepreneurship ecosystem, the Honourable Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, has officially launched the Student Venture Capital Grant (S-VCG) – a groundbreaking initiative that offers Nigerian tertiary students up to ₦50 million in equity-free seed funding for their startups.
The launch, held in Abuja on Monday, forms a key pillar of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda focused on youth empowerment, job creation, and innovation-driven economic growth.
Speaking at the event, Minister Alausa emphasized that the S-VCG is not just about funding but about building sustainable, world-class ventures from Nigeria’s campuses.“
This is more than money – it is a complete ecosystem of support. Successful applicants will receive up to ₦50 million in equity-free investment, world-class incubation, one-on-one mentorship from proven entrepreneurs and industry titans, and global visibility for their solutions,” he stated.
Key Features of the Student Venture Capital Grant:
- Funding: Up to ₦50 million (equity-free seed capital)
- Incubation & Acceleration: Intensive structured program
- Mentorship: Direct access to seasoned entrepreneurs and industry leaders
- Focus Areas: Projects must be in STEMM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics, and Medical Sciences)
- Business Requirement: Startup must be registered with the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC)
Who Can Apply?The program is open to students from all federal, state, and private tertiary institutions across Nigeria, including:
- Undergraduate students from 300 level (third year) and above
- Master’s and PhD students
Application Timeline
- Portal Opened: 17 November 2025
- Application Deadline: 23 January 2026
Successful first-stage applicants will be invited to pitch their ventures before a 12-member expert panel of investors, entrepreneurs, and industry leaders.
Minister Alausa urged students to seize the opportunity, stating:
